Burrawang West Station is committed to producing the highest quality animals possible for cost efficient meat production. Stud Principal Graham Pickles says 'In our pursuit of breeding high weight gain, well muscled rams we search consistently for the best genetics on the market as well as drawing from our own stud. We want to produce elite sires, and in that quest we also end up breeding large quantities of excellent value for money commercial sires'. Burrawang West usually runs 4 to 5 ET programs a year based on the latest batch of Elite Ewes and Rams as well as the natural breeding program.
Each year the Stud's focus is on Elite Sires from four or five different bloodlines at least three of these from outside the Stud. We are not emotional about our own animals if we see an animal that is better in some qualities then we will try and buy the Semen or the Sire and select for what we are aiming for, well balanced animals that produce high weight gain offspring with the frame to hold finishing.
